Biologist Measuring Reeds in Gujranwala Marsh
by Lana Brooks
Bright, even laboratory-style illumination washes over the tight close-up of a biologist standing knee-deep in the marsh. The subject wears heavy canvas waders, their fabric textured and slightly damp at the hem where it meets the still water. Hands grip a slender measuring tape against a cluster of tall, dry reeds that have turned brittle and golden in the early winter cold. The reeds stand upright, their hollow stems catching the sharp light, creating distinct highlights against the darker, muddy water. Behind the subject, the sky is filled with dramatic, heavy clouds that cast a soft, diffused shadow across the wetland surface. The water reflects the pale sky and the dark silhouettes of the reeds. A small droplet of water rests on the tip of a brown reed blade near the bottom right corner. The scene is still, with no movement in the air or water.
