Aurora over Fabric Metal Station in beneath a hard winter sky over snowfields in British Columbia

Aurora over Fabric Metal Station

by Martha Ellison

Silvery winter light floods a snowfield beneath a hard sky where the Aurora Australis swirls in ribbons of green and violet. A research station dominates the foreground, its rigid metal walls bending and draping like heavy fabric with deep, visible folds. Thin ground mist rises from the snow, softening the base of the structure while the frozen ground reflects the station and the sky in a perfect mirrored composition. The impossible curves of the metal catch the celestial glow, creating sharp highlights along the folds. Shadows stretch across the ice, at the base of the surreal architecture in the stillness of the polar night.
