Aurora Borealis Reflections on Winter Moraine Pools in beneath a hard winter sky over snowfields in Ontario

Aurora Borealis Reflections on Winter Moraine Pools

by Bridget Everett

Pale green ribbons of the aurora borealis stretch across a hard winter sky, their light fractured by low-hanging clouds. Below, a moraine field of grey rocks and patches of snow holds several meltwater pools. These dark surfaces act as mirrors, showing the faint, undulating glow of the night sky. Rim light from the distant horizon cuts through the deep shadows, outlining the jagged edges of the stones and the thin ice forming along the water's edges. The scene remains in the still hours before dawn, where the cold cosmic distance is visible in the sharp contrast between the dark, textured earth and the ethereal, shifting lights above. One reflection of a green arc shimmers on the surface of the nearest pool.
