Rain slicks the narrow Via dei Tribunali as dusk bleeds into indigo, reflecting the warm tungsten spill from a corner bakery. A vendor in a translucent plastic apron leans over a wooden crate, arranging bright red cherries that glisten against the wet wood. Behind him, shelves of leather-bound books stand slightly askew, their spines damp. The vendor’s hands move with practiced speed, ignoring the drizzle that beads on his wool scarf draped over a metal hook. Outside, a rusted door latch catches the last light, while puddles on the cobblestones mirror the neon sign of a nearby florist.
