Rain slicks the narrow Via dei Cassari, turning the pavement into a dark mirror that reflects the neon glow of a closed gelateria sign. A vendor in a translucent yellow rain poncho leans over a stainless steel cart, his hands busy arranging fresh citrus peels and terracotta bowls filled with marinated seafood for the evening rush. The hammered metal of a large serving pot catches the wet streetlights, creating a sharp, bright contrast against the muted grey of the damp air. Steam rises from the cart, blurring the background where pedestrians hurry past with umbrellas, their forms softened by the twilight and precipitation.
