Aerial view of ship wake cutting through ocean

by Miles Hood

Cold silver dawn light reflects off the deep blue surface of the Pacific, where a massive container ship carves a distinct white wake. The vessel moves along a switchback approach in British Columbia, its path cutting through low-hanging clouds that obscure the distant shoreline. The water churns into a frothy texture, against the smooth, dark ocean around it. Converging lines from the wake lead toward a vanishing point on the horizon. Late spring air hangs heavy in the mist, softening the edges of the waves. A dark hull slices through the water, leaving a trail of foam that fades into the gray distance.
