Research Vessel in Antarctic Ice Near Vancouver

Cold silver dawn light washes over the stern of a heavy research vessel resting in a harbor choked with thick sea ice. The hull, painted in dull industrial gray, contrasts with the sharp white ridges of frozen water pressing against its side. A layer of frost coats the metal railings and the small windows of the bridge. The sky above is a flawless, pale blue, devoid of clouds despite the heavy fog clinging to the distant waterline. Ice chunks float in the dark channel, their edges glinting with a hard, glassy sheen. The water remains motionless, reflecting the stark geometry of the ship's superstructure. Frost crystals form delicate patterns on the wet deck, marking the absolute stillness of the pre-sunrise hour.
