Adjusting Crate in Alexandria

by Ezra Fleming

Rain-slicked limestone facades of the Raml Station district gleam under a heavy, overcast sky, the wet pavement reflecting the muted grey of the clouds. A vendor leans against a chipped stucco wall near a narrow alley entrance, adjusting a metal latch on a wooden crate filled with bruised avocados and rough bath sponges, items left out after a sudden downpour. Water drips steadily from a corrugated tin awning above, pooling in the cracks of the uneven stone street. In the background, a faded blue door stands ajar, revealing a glimpse of a tiled interior where a violin case rests against a shelf, untouched by the damp.
