Heavy overcast skies diffuse the tropical afternoon light into a soft, electric glow within the tiled stair hall near Lome. A metal fire escape zigzags sharply downward, its painted ironwork contrasting against the cool, pale ceramic tiles that line the walls. The Dutch angle tilt creates a dynamic sense of movement, making the rigid structure appear to lean and twist. Dust motes float in the shafts of bright, scattered light, illuminating the texture of the rusted bolts and the smooth, slightly worn surface of the floor. The geometric repetition of the stairs meets the organic chaos of the uneven tile grout. A deep shadow falls across the bottom landing where the final step meets the floor.
