Wiping Hands in Halifax

Under the flat, diffuse light of an overcast Nova Scotia midday, a weathered granite wharf wall shows signs of decades of salt spray and foot traffic. A local fisherman in a faded yellow slicker pauses near a stack of rusted lobster pots, wiping his hands on a threadbare cotton towel tucked into his belt. His fingers, rough and stained with kelp residue, leave faint smudges on the polished brass cleat beside him. In the background, the grey harbor water laps gently against the hull of a distant trawler, while a single green vine clings tenaciously to the mortar between the stones, defying the harsh maritime wind. The quiet, enduring texture of working waterfront life.
