Wind Farm Road Under Bridge Blades North Korea in under a cable-stayed bridge span in North Korea

Wind Farm Road Under Bridge Blades North Korea

by Sharon Figueroa

Hard coastal noon light floods the asphalt service road stretching beneath a massive cable-stayed bridge span. Three white turbine blades rotate overhead, their motion blurred into translucent arcs against the bleached sky. The concrete pillars of the bridge rise steeply on either side, anchoring the steel cables that fan out like spiderwebs. Dust kicks up in thin, swirling ribbons along the road surface where the wind whips through the gap. Shadows from the bridge structure fall in sharp, geometric bands across the gray pavement. The white paint on the turbine nacelles glows intensely under the glare. A rust-colored metal guardrail runs along the right edge, its surface textured with salt corrosion. at the edge is a single bolt head on the bridge support, gleaming wet with sea spray.
