Wild Horse Running on Kyushu Ridge Evening
by Rachael Rice
Dusky gray clouds press low over a wind-scoured ridge in late autumn Kyushu. A wild horse charges across the frame, its dark coat rippling with muscle as it breaks through dry, golden grasses. The ground is a mix of worn earth and brittle stalks, kicked up in small clouds behind the animal's hooves. In the distance, a soft, orange glow from a town horizon cuts through the heavy overcast, providing a faint backlight that outlines the horse's mane. The light is flat and diffuse, casting soft, indistinct shadows beneath the animal. The horse's head is lowered slightly, ears pinned back, conveying intense focus as it moves with purpose across the open slope. One tuft of grass bends sharply against the wind near the bottom right corner.
