Wild Horse Running Free in Chugoku Winter
by Trevor Burt
Golden late-afternoon sunlight cuts through humid air, illuminating a dark-coated wild horse galloping across a dormant winter field in the Chugoku region. The animal's mane whips backward as hooves churn wet, dark earth, sending droplets flying into the bright light. A weathered wooden gate stands open in the foreground, creating a natural frame that focuses attention on the creature's powerful stride. Frost rests on the dry, yellowed grasses lining the path, against the damp soil. The horse's muscles ripple under a coat glistening with recent rain, moving with raw energy against the muted greens and browns of the cold season. Dust and water spray catch the low sun, creating a sharp edge of light along the horse's flank.
