Sweeping Night Light Over Galloping Horses in at the edge of a reed bed in Montana

Sweeping Night Light Over Galloping Horses

by Freda Leon

A razor-thin beam of impossible white light cuts horizontally across a dark Montana plain, isolating a herd of wild horses in mid-stride. The animals blur into streaks of gray and brown against the black ground, their legs extended in a frozen sprint. Surrounding the illuminated strip, the world dissolves into absolute, sharp shadow, rendering the reed bed at the edge invisible. The dust kicked up by the hooves glows intensely within the beam while vanishing instantly outside it. One patch of wet, dark earth reflects the harsh light, anchoring the surreal moment to the physical ground before the darkness swallows the rest of the landscape.
