Wet Newspaper Stuck to Fire Hydrant in outside a metro entrance in Zapopan

Wet Newspaper Stuck to Fire Hydrant

by Beth Pearson

A waterlogged newspaper rests on the rusted base of a red fire hydrant outside a metro entrance in Zapopan. The paper is sodden and translucent, its ink smudged into dark, bleeding streaks across the torn surface. Above, dramatic clouds drift across a night sky illuminated by faint ground glow from distant streetlights. The dry season keeps the surrounding pavement cracked and dusty, against the wet paper. The red paint of the hydrant is chipped, revealing gray metal underneath. A reflection of the clouds shimmers in a small puddle at the base of the metal fixture.
