Misty dawn diffuses the light over a narrow alley in Islamic Cairo, where the air hangs thick and gray against weathered limestone facades. A street sweeper pauses near a stone threshold, his wool coat damp with condensation, while a yellow folding chair sits overturned beside a bucket of soapy water. Soap residue rests on the drain grate, shimmering faintly in the low light. Nearby, a child in a bright red jacket runs past, kicking up a small spray of mist.
