Wasp Mandibles On Wood Fiber At Dawn

Pale amber light falls through a heavy, humid autumn sky, settling on a fragment of bleached wood fiber. The surface displays rough, splintered grain running diagonally across the frame. Centered in the view, the black mandibles of a wasp clamp onto the wood, their serrated edges catching the soft, diffused glow. Fine, translucent hairs line the insect's head, standing rigid against the damp air. The wood fibers appear weathered and wind-scoured, their texture sharp and brittle. A thin film of moisture coats the jagged edges of the splinter, reflecting the gray sky above. The mandibles remain locked in a still, tense grip, highlighting the contrast between the smooth chitin and the rough, organic debris.
