Pale walls reflect the soft, indirect glow of early morning, casting a gentle light across a modest kitchen in Tijuana. From behind, a violin maker leans over a wooden workbench, knife in hand carving the delicate scroll of an instrument. The first light of early spring falls through a small window, illuminating dust motes and the rough texture of the wood shavings scattered on the surface. A small lamp rests in the corner, its warm yellow pool settling into the shadows where tools hang on the wall. The maker's posture is still, focused on the curve of the wood.
