Upside Down Water Ceiling Reflection in Katowice Terminal

by Bjorn Workman

Pale walls of the restored Katowice train terminal glow with soft, indirect midday light filtering through early autumn air. A minimalist white bowl rests on a surface, positioned near a sharp, dark seam of light that cuts across the floor. Above, the ceiling has transformed into a sheet of water, reflecting the entire room upside down. The reflection shows the bowl and the dark light seam inverted, creating a playful visual ambiguity where the floor and water-sky merge. Tiny dust particles float in the real shafts of light, while their inverted counterparts shimmer in the watery ceiling. The boundary between the solid architecture and the liquid reflection is a precise, horizontal line where the water meets the structural beam. One droplet rests on the edge of the inverted bowl in the reflection.
