Uphill Rain Beading Skylight Candlelight in on a wooden workbench near Nasiriyah

Uphill Rain Beading Skylight Candlelight

by Xavier Wiggins

Warm candlelight illuminates droplets clinging to a wooden skylight frame, casting soft amber shadows across a workbench near Nasiriyah. Condensation coats the nearby glass surface, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior. Raindrops defy gravity, crawling upward along the slanted pane to pool at the highest ridge where they gather into a single, heavy mass. The wood grain runs horizontally beneath the glass, textured and darkened by moisture. Late autumn stillness hangs in the air, visible only through the stillness of the liquid and the flickering flame. Each bead reflects the candle's glow, creating tiny, shifting points of light that trace the impossible ascent of water against the slope.
