Typesetter Arranging Lead Letters at Night

Stark fluorescent light cuts through the deep night, illuminating the weathered hands of a master typesetter in Golmud. The worker sits surrounded by trays of heavy lead letterforms, fingers moving with practiced precision to arrange the metal characters. Rain streaks the window behind, a brief summer shower blurring the dark exterior while the interior remains dry and functional. The face shows lines of experience under the harsh overhead glow, framed by ample negative space that isolates the figure against the quiet room. One lead type block rests on the wooden tray, its edges catching the cold, artificial reflection.
