Mahlstick on Bookbinder Workboard Glodok Night

Soft tungsten light pools across a worn wooden workbench, illuminating a mahlstick resting diagonally near the edge. The surface shows deep scratches, ink stains, and the rough grain of aged timber. A small pile of leather scraps lies beside a brass tool, catching sharp highlights on their polished curves. Shadows stretch long and dark across the floorboards, showing the late hour. The wood grain runs vertically, interrupted by a patch of dried glue and a stray thread. A faint reflection on the mahlstick handle mirrors the overhead bulb, while the surrounding tools remain still and silent in the cool, quiet air. at the edge is a tiny chip of wood near the corner, revealing the pale interior beneath the dark varnish.
