Cool blue twilight washes the wet asphalt beneath a concrete overpass in Astana. A heavy chain-link fence runs horizontally across the frame, its metal links dark against the gray sky. Rain slicks the ground, creating mirror-like reflections of the nearby store's fluorescent lights. The overcast monsoon clouds hang low and thick, pressing down on the urban decay visible along the bridge's base. Peeling paint and rust streak the concrete pillars, while water drips steadily from the railing. In the immediate foreground, out-of-focus raindrops blur the view of a puddle, framing the scene with soft, indistinct circles of light. at the edge is one drop of water hanging from a rusted bolt, trembling before falling into the dark water below.
