Churned brown mud dominates the foreground where deep, parallel furrows cut across a parade ground in Berbera. The earth is dry and cracked at the edges, shifting to wet sludge where recent vehicle or foot traffic has disturbed the soil. Overcast skies cast a flat, gray light that suppresses shadows, while a warm, orange glow from a distant town rises on the horizon. Fine dust particles hang suspended in the air, stirred by the unseen wash of a rotor blade, blurring the texture of the mud. Leading lines formed by the trench edges draw toward the fading light. One boot print remains filled with water at the edge of the trench, reflecting the dull sky.
