The thatcher's hands work with deliberate precision, wrapping natural fiber cords around the thatch layers. Long shadows stretch across the water's surface and the thatched structure, showing the late afternoon hour of the dry season. Leaves skitter across the canal bank in the wind, caught in the moment of construction. The wood of the roof frame shows weathering from coastal exposure, while the reeds display varying shades of golden brown. A thick coil of binding rope rests on the thatch near the worker's elbow.
