Thatcher Bundling Reed on Lahore Rooftop
Flat noon light washes the terracotta tiles of a Lahore rooftop, softening under a canopy of low, gray clouds. A thatcher stands centered in the frame, hands busy twisting dry reeds into a thick, cylindrical bundle. The reeds display a spectrum of golden straw and pale green, their fibrous texture rough against the smooth, weathered clay beneath. Beside the worker, a canal reflects the overcast sky, its surface a dull silver ribbon cutting through the urban sprawl. The figure wears a simple white shalwar kameez, the fabric loose and heavy in the humid air. Shadows are minimal, flattened by the diffuse illumination, allowing the details of the coiled grass and the mortar lines in the brick parapet to stand out clearly. The bundle rests on the worker's hip, its weight evident in the slight bend of the spine.
