Tannery Worker Dye Stained Hands Market Lane
Bright midmorning light reflects off a shallow pool of water, illuminating a tannery worker standing in a Porto Alegre market lane. The worker wears a heavy apron stained deep brown and red from the dye, with hands similarly darkened and textured by the process. Dust hangs low in the air, catching the light in visible motes. Behind the figure, a passenger train car is embedded directly into the lane, its metallic side merging with the brickwork of a nearby building. The impossible structure casts a sharp shadow across the wet pavement, at the base of the surreal element in the physical reality of the scene. The worker's gaze remains fixed forward, untouched by the anomaly beside them. One reflection of the train's window glimmers in a puddle at the worker's feet.
