Indigo Dyer Stirring Fabric by Xian Canal at Night

Warm string lights hang low above a dark canal in Xian, casting a soft amber glow on a figure standing at the water's edge. The dyer grips a wooden paddle, moving it through a deep indigo vat where fabric swells in the liquid. Early autumn dampness rests on the air, visible as a faint mist rising from the black water. The figure wears simple, dark clothing, their posture focused on the rhythmic motion of the dye. Wet stone steps lead down to the vat, reflecting the string lights in distorted, shimmering patches. A strip of dyed cloth hangs over the rim, dripping slowly, its blue hue deep and saturated against the dim surroundings.
