Deep indigo stains mark the weathered skin of a textile dyer standing beside a quiet canal in Barranquilla. Pale morning light skims across the face, highlighting deep lines and the rough texture of skin worn by labor. The sky above is a heavy, uniform overcast, casting a soft, diffused glow that eliminates harsh shadows. Behind the subject, the canal water reflects the gray atmosphere, while weathered wooden pilings rise from the murky surface. The dry season leaves the surrounding vegetation sparse and brown. A faint smear of blue dye rests on the subject's cheekbone, against the pale, cloudy sky and the dull green of the water.
