Symmetrical Civic Atrium in Garoua After Rain in inside a skylit passageway in Garoua

Symmetrical Civic Atrium in Garoua After Rain

by Hugh Blanchard

Broad skylight floods the civic atrium in Garoua, illuminating wet stone floors that mirror the symmetrical architecture. Heavy rain has just passed, leaving droplets clinging to the high glass ceiling and dripping slowly from the edges of the concrete overhangs. The perspective lines of the columns and beams converge precisely toward the center, showing infinite depth. Gray clouds outside diffuse the morning light, casting soft, even shadows across the polished surfaces. Dust motes float in the beams of light above the empty walkway. Water collects in shallow puddles near the base of the pillars, reflecting the white sky and the dark structural steel. at the edge is a single drop falling from a ceiling vent, striking the water on the floor with a visible ripple.
