Cathedral Spire Reflected in Rainy Nairobi Plaza

Rain pools on the dark asphalt of a Nairobi plaza, creating a distorted mirror for a distant cathedral spire. Fluorescent signs from a convenience store glow with harsh white light against the late afternoon sky, their rectangular shapes casting faint reflections on the wet ground. Heat shimmers rise in visible waves from the sun-baked pavement, warping the image of the church tower and the store signage alike. The water surface ripples gently, breaking the reflection into fragmented shards of stone gray and electric blue. Nearby, concrete curbs separate the standing water from the dry sidewalk, where the texture of the stone contrasts with the slick, oily sheen of the puddle. One drop falls from an overhanging awning, sending concentric circles racing across the dark water.
