Sunflower Disk Pollen Detail on Lichen Bark

Late afternoon light cuts across a sunflower head resting on rough, lichen-speckled bark. The central disk dominates the frame, its dark florets arranged in tight spirals. Golden pollen grains dust the textured surfaces, catching the sidelight to create tiny points of brightness against the deep brown and orange hues. The bark beneath shows patches of pale green and grey lichen clinging to the weathered wood grain. Soft shadows settle in the crevices of the flower head, while a warm glow from an unseen lamp illuminates the edges of the petals. One grain of pollen rests on a dark floret tip, sharp and distinct against the blurred background.
