Under the flat, diffused gray light of an overcast midday, a street-side tailor’s makeshift station occupies a narrow patch of cracked pavement in North Kolkata. A faded, floral-patterned armchair serves as a seat, its fabric worn smooth by years of use, while a small, rusted camp stool holds a stack of heavy denim and a pair of shears. Beside the worker, a coiled length of thick hemp rope rests against a stack of colorful sari bolts, adding a textural contrast to the smooth, synthetic fabrics.
