Under the flat, shadowless glare of a Kolkata noon, a street-side tailor sits cross-legged on a cracked concrete stoop, his attention fixed on a faded blue shirt draped over his knees. A small, scruffy terrier mixes with the dust near his feet, its tail giving a lazy, rhythmic thump against the pavement. On the low wooden table beside him, a pile of bright yellow lemons sits next to a discarded, translucent citrus peel, the acid juice glistening faintly in the harsh overhead light. The tailor’s hands move with practiced speed, needle flashing, while the dog watches a passing rickshaw with mild interest.
