A street-side shoe repair stall glows under the harsh sodium-vapor streetlights of a Kolkata lane, where a cobbler sits cross-legged on a worn mat. His hands work a leather sole with a metal burnisher, the tool catching a sharp glint of light against the darkening sky. Behind him, a stack of mismatched cushions and a blue-and-white porcelain bowl sit precariously on a low wooden shelf, cluttered with wrenches and tea tins. A passing rickshaw blurs past in the background, its red taillight smearing across the wet pavement and reflecting off the cobbler’s focused expression.
