Stone Dovecote Restored in Toronto Terminal

by Rosemary Callahan

A weathered stone dovecote stands tilted within the vast, restored interior of a Toronto train terminal. Early autumn light falls through the high glass roof, illuminating dust motes that hang in the air. Fine rain streaks across the glass panes, blurring the distant steel trusses. The rough texture of the gray masonry contrasts with the smooth, dark metal beams overhead. Red and orange leaves from a nearby potted plant drift across the polished concrete floor. The structure casts a sharp, diagonal shadow against the white wall, showing the Dutch angle of the room. one drop of water rests on the bottom corner of a stone archway, ready to fall.
