Star Trails Over Weather Mast Near Potala Palace

by Raymond Skinner

A solitary weather station mast rises against a vast, star-filled sky above the Lhasa ridge. Long exposure trails arc gracefully across the frame, marking the Earth's rotation beneath thin, drifting cloud gaps. The foreground reveals the dark, textured silhouette of winter vegetation and rocky terrain, at the base of the structure in the high-altitude landscape. A small, warm fire glows at the base of the mast, casting a soft orange rim light on the metal framework and illuminating the immediate ground with a pool of intimate warmth. This contrast between the cold, infinite starlight and the localized firelight emphasizes the scale of the night. at the edge is the sharp, white edge of a star trail cutting directly across the dark, vertical line of the mast.
