Soba Shop in Tokyo
by Vicki Rojas
Misty dawn softens the neon glow of a narrow Tokyo alleyway, where damp asphalt reflects the cool blue hues of early morning. A lone salaryman in a dark suit waits beneath the awning of a small family-run soba shop, his breath visible in the chill air. Through the steam-fogged glass window, the warm amber interior reveals a chef’s hands moving with practiced speed, while a jade-green ceramic bowl sits ready on the counter. Outside, a Great Dane rests quietly against the shop’s wooden pillar, its fur damp from the mist, observing the quiet street. The cold, wet exterior with the inviting warmth inside, capturing a fleeting moment of urban stillness before the city fully wakes.
