A damp Osaka alleyway glows under the pale, diffused light of misty dawn, where the wet asphalt reflects the neon pink of a distant vending machine. A local delivery worker in a bright yellow raincoat pauses beside a stack of cardboard boxes, holding a thermal bag that steams slightly in the cold air. Leaning against a corrugated metal shutter are two long-handled brooms, their bristles matted with rain.
