Smith's Workbench in Istanbul

Sunlight slants through the open shutter of a copper-smith’s workshop in Sultanahmet, illuminating a chaotic workbench where a brass saucer sits beside a half-finished calligraphy brush resting on a stack of yellowing books. The air is thick with the heat of the late afternoon, casting long, sharp shadows across a red lacquered wooden tray that holds a small tool pegboard with chisels and hammers. A woven mat covers the floor, worn smooth by decades of feet, while a drying rack leans against the back wall, holding wet cloths and spare parts.
