Silvery Drizzle Softens Connecticut City Lights
by Porter Cook
Midsummer rain falls in fine, vertical threads over a Connecticut cityscape, blurring the sharp edges of streetlamps and building windows into soft halos of amber and white. The sky above remains a deep, cloudless indigo, against the wet, dark pavement below. Street signs stand silhouetted against the glowing background, their shapes reduced to dark outlines. Water droplets rest on the glass of a nearby window frame, distorting the view of the street beyond. The light reflects off the slick asphalt, creating elongated streaks of color that stretch across the road surface. A lone streetlamp casts a pale, silvery glow that diffuses through the falling mist, turning the air itself into a veil of suspended moisture. The wet metal of a traffic signal glows faintly red against the darkening horizon.
