Silhouetted Salt Crate at Haiti Convoy Sunset
by Desmond Pham
Dust-choked air hangs heavy as the sun dips low, casting long, sharp shadows across the dry, cracked earth of a Haitian roadside. A wooden crate filled with salt packets sits in the foreground, its contents reduced to a dark, jagged silhouette against the burning orange and bruised purple sky. Dramatic, towering clouds stack vertically above the horizon, their undersides glowing with fading light while their tops fade into deep charcoal. The crate rests on reddish-brown soil scattered with small stones and sparse, dry grass tufts. Behind the crate, the faint, elongated outlines of military vehicles stretch into the distance, their shapes merging with the twilight haze. The scene holds a stillness, the objects waiting motionless as the light shifts from gold to gray. One salt packet edge catches a final sliver of reflected light, glinting briefly before vanishing into the encroaching dark.
