Silhouetted Camels at Pushkar Festival Sunset Square in at a public square during a festival near Doha

Silhouetted Camels at Pushkar Festival Sunset Square

by Jorge Russo

Golden sunset light fractures the air, turning a group of camels and their handlers into stark, black silhouettes against the glowing sky. The wind whips the fabric of their headdresses and the loose reins, creating jagged, moving lines that cut through the stillness of the square. Handlers stand with disciplined focus, their postures rigid as they guide the large animals through the dusty, open space. Shadows stretch long across the packed earth, merging the figures into a single dark mass. The texture of the camels' coarse coats is invisible, replaced by the sharp outline of their humps and heads. A final tassel on a rein snaps taut in the breeze, defining the edge of the frame against the fading light.
