Sicilian Watchtower at Twilight Over Sea
by Hugo Ward
Weathered stone walls of an ancient watchtower rise from a jagged Sicilian cliff edge, their rough surfaces textured by decades of salt wind. Below, the sea shimmers with reflected city lights that begin to glow against the encroaching dusk. A soft sea haze blurs the distant horizon, softening the boundary between water and sky. The stone steps leading up to the tower create strong diagonal lines that guide the gaze upward toward the battlements. Late spring greenery clings to crevices in the masonry, adding small bursts of life to the grey and ochre stone. The warm artificial glow from the distant city reflects off the water, casting a gentle, shimmering path that contrasts with the cool blue tones of the twilight sky. A small patch of moss remains damp on the lowest corner of the tower base.
