Heat haze shimmers above the surface, distorting the horizon line near the remote ferry crossing. The vessel sits low in the early summer morning, its dark metal surfaces reflecting the pale sky in a perfect mirrored composition. Ropes and mesh create a complex web against the brightening east, their textures softened by the atmospheric distortion. The water remains still, holding the inverted image of the boat and its gear with glass-like clarity. One ripple breaks the reflection near the stern, marking the only movement in the quiet water.
