Scandinavian Turf Cottage in African Stair Hall

Heavy overcast light falls through the tiled stair hall of M'banza-Kongo, casting a cool, grey wash over the scene. A miniature Scandinavian turf roof cottage rests on the landing, its green grass blades standing stiff against the damp air. The roof texture is thick and organic, contrasting sharply with the smooth, geometric tiles of the surrounding African architecture. Reflected light from a nearby water feature creates shimmering, silver ripples across the stone steps and the cottage walls. The cool season is visible in the muted tones of the grass and the grey sky visible through the upper archway. Leading lines of the staircase draw the eye upward toward the small, isolated structure. One blade of grass bends slightly under the weight of a water droplet near the roof's edge.
