Salt Harvester Raking Crystals at Dawn
Cool dawn light floods the wet rows of an evaporation pond near Kutaisi, turning the surface into a shimmering mirror of pale blue and silver. A silhouetted figure stands waist-deep in the shallow brine, rhythmically dragging a long wooden rake across the crystalline crust. The wind whips loose strands of hair and ripples the water around the worker's boots, disturbing the perfect geometric lines of the salt deposits. Late summer heat has already drawn moisture from the ground, leaving behind thick layers of white salt that glitter under the rising sun. The figure moves with deliberate slowness, pulling the rake back and forth to gather the forming crystals. Dust and spray hang in the air, catching the low angle of the morning light. One clump of wet salt crystals rests on the metal teeth of the rake.
