Sadhu Meditating on Wet Stone at Indian Shrine
Honeyed evening light spills across the wet stone platform where a sadhu sits cross-legged in deep meditation. The wet season has left the ancient ghats slick with moisture, reflecting the warm glow of nearby firelight that touches the figure's ash-smeared skin. Dark water droplets rest on the rough texture of the stone steps leading up to the shrine entrance. A coarse saffron cloth drapes over one shoulder, its fibers saturated and heavy. Humid air hangs around the still form, visible in the way the light catches the fine dust on the shoulders. The stone beneath the lotus position is cool and dark, against the orange firelight that illuminates the face and the calm, closed eyes. One shadow stretches long across the damp pavement, ending at a small, flickering oil lamp placed nearby.
