Deep shadow swallows the lower half of a flat concrete parapet while a sharp rim of dawn light slices across the top edge. Two workers in high-visibility vests maneuver a wide roll of black roofing membrane across the surface. The material unspools in a heavy, matte curve, against the pale, unfinished concrete frame of the building nearby. Late spring grass pushes through cracks in the foundation below. Dramatic, heavy clouds loom overhead, casting long, soft shadows that stretch across the work area. The crew moves with focused urgency, their boots leaving faint prints in the dust. One edge of the black membrane catches the faint morning glow against the gray sky.
