Recipe Cards in Nairobi

Morning light spills through the open doorway of a modest Nairobi kitchen, illuminating a worn wooden counter where a woman in a bright orange shuka shawl sorts through a pile of handwritten recipe cards. The cards, stained with turmeric and oil, are stacked beside a set of dented aluminum measuring cups that catch the early sun. Behind her, a glazed ceramic bowl reflects the blue sky visible through the window, adding a cool tone to the warm interior. On the wall, a rusted hook holds a faded apron, while outside, the green leaves of a mango tree sway gently against the red brick of the neighboring house.
